Groombridge St. Thomas CE Primary School

A welcome from the Chair of Governors

Welcome

Chair of Governors

Welcome to Groombridge St Thomas Church of England School from the Governing Body.

The members that make up the Governing Body are chosen by the Church, the local authority, and parents. A number of Governors have their own careers and responsibilities but they voluntarily dedicate time to the school.

As well as sharing a common desire to be involved in supporting the school, the Governing Body have statutory duties by which they are legally bound. The Governing Body is ultimately responsible for all matters relating to the school including teaching and learning, safeguarding, health and safety, staffing, premises and ensuring financial accountability and sustainability. The full Governing Body meets regularly, while sub-committee meetings to consider the more specific areas such as curriculum, staffing, resources and admissions.

The governors have worked closely with the Head Teacher to do everything in our power to make the school as safe as possible during these extraordinary times. We keep the situation, and changes in Government guidance, under constant review. We are proud of the fact that, unlike many schools, we are operating a normal school schedule. This is testimony to the outstanding leadership of the school and the commitment of all our staff.

The governing body are committed to continue to build on the outstanding success of the school, and on its close integration with the wider community in Groombridge. This year the staff and governors will be particularly concerned to address any educational attainment gaps that may have arisen for any children due to the school closure. The governors know that none of this is possible without the hard work and dedication of the head teacher, class teachers, all the support staff and, of course, the children. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them all, and also the parents and wider community who support us.

Particular thanks must go to the ongoing work of the PTA. The results of their fundraising efforts can be seen all around the school from IT infrastructure to playground resources, arts and craft and classroom equipment. Thank you all so much, keep doing what you are doing, raising money and having a lot of fun in the process.

We hope you find the website full of useful information.

Thank you.
